The Rundown: The Guardians of the Galaxy travel through time to rescue one of their own.

The Ultimates travel to a remote location when Doom alerts them of a temporal event that will happen soon. At the same time, a spacecraft rockets through time thousands of years before finally reaching the present and crashing into the field the Ultimates are stationed in.

The Guardians of the Galaxy emerge from the ship led by Captain Marvel and they are there to rescue their lost member America Chavez. After a tense back and forth with the Ultimates, Captain Marvel shows America the future through her eyes. A future that will bring them into conflict with the Maker and will force America to make a decision about whether or not she will stay.

The Story: Camp creates an interesting story in this issue and I really enjoyed seeing this unique take on the Guardians of the Galaxy. I was waiting to get more into America’s backstory and this issue delivered on that in a satisfying way while also showing the long term effects of the Maker’s intervention in this reality. The fight between the two teams felt forced and unnecessary, but everything worked well to show that this team still isn’t ready to take on the Maker. An enjoyable continuation of a consistently intriguing story.

The Art: Frigeri delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. The visuals are vibrant and brilliantly detailed. I really love the visual style of the characters and how unique yet recognizable they are.
